The new Mister Gay Belgium 2017

Another step closer to equality

The acceptance of the LGBT community remains a sensitive issue, even within today's society they are still not fully accepted. That is why Bram Bierkens tries to change this with his Mister Gay Belgium election. Unlike other elections, this is not just about the looks but also about the brains. Raf Van Puymbroeck won this honorary title last year, with his campaign focusing on the rights of the LGBT community within the sports world. Raf also scored internationally and won the title of Mister Gay Europe and third place in the Mister Gay World election.

BV takeover

Last weekend the fifth election of Mister Gay Belgium took place at Theater Elckerlyc in Antwerp. For months, the twelve finalists have prepared for this nerve-racking day. The preparations are expressed in a round of questions, a Mister Gay Belgium exam and amazing dance steps. The jury included numerous BVs such as Jean-Marie Pfaff, Hilde De Baerdemaeker, Sven De Ridder, Rob Vanoudenhoven, Stefaan Degand, Josje Huisman, Jacky Lafon, Lesley-Ann Poppe and Slongs Dievanongs. Ex-blonde from K3, Josje, stole the show in a rainbow glitter suit from the Ashish men's collection. Hilde Crevits (CD&V), Flemish Minister for Education, was the jury chairman of the evening, promising to do more to raise awareness about the LGBTQ community within schools.

From student to Mister Gay Belgium

Thanks to the perfect organization of the evening you were dragged into the story of every finalist and before we knew it there was the nail-biting title ceremony. The winner went home with a prize package of no less than ten thousand euros! Raf Van Puymbroeck, last year's winner, gave an emotional farewell speech in which he looked back on his successful year as an ambassador for the LGBT community. This year's winner is Jaimie Deblieck, an 18-year-old West Flemish from Roeselare. Jamie studied Horticulture and is currently in a specialization year in Gardening and maintenance. He wants to stand up for LGBs and transgender people in the workplace, which is often still a sensitive subject. First honorary honor was lifestyle coach Gerrit Noerens from Welle, followed by occupational therapy student Ignace De Wolf. Congrats guys!
